Dalian University of Technology (DUT) has 18 first-class doctoral degree programs, 108 second-class doctoral degree programs, 148 master’s degree programs, four professional degree programs including Master of Business Administration (MBA, including Executive Master of Business Administration EMBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Architec-ture, and Master of Engineering, and a program for in-service college teachers to pursue a master’s degree; there are many renowned experts and scholars in the tutorial faculty, in-cluding 366 doctoral tutors, 90 pluralistic doctoral tutors, 1293 master’s tutors, 21 memb-ers of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering (11 jointly appointed academicians), 10 members of the Discipline Assessment Group of the State Council Academic Degree Committee, 11 specially appointed professors in "Cheung Kong Scholars Program", 4 cathedra professors, 30 winners of the Science Funds for National Outstanding Youth, 8 professors honored in the "National Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thous-and-of-Expert Project", 18 winners of the State Ministry of Education's Trans-Century Fun-ds for Talents, 3 winners of the State Ministry of Education's Scholarship Funds of Teach-ing and Research for Young Faculties of Institutions of Higher Learning, 2 winners of the National 100 Famous University Teachers, and 7 winners of Famous University Teachers, Liaoning. By the end of September 2007, there are a total of 15567 various types of post-graduate students at school, including 3114 full-time doctoral students, and 7556 full-time master’s students. 0

DUT has 4 national first-class key disciplines (Mechanics, Chemical Engineering and Tech-nology, Hydraulic Engineering, and Management Science and Engineering), including 15 second-class disciplines; 6 national second-class key disciplines that are not covered by the first-class disciplines (Computational Mathematics, Plasma Physics, Mechanical Manu-facture and Automation, Structural Engineering, Design and Construction of Naval Arch-itecture and Ocean Structure, and Environmental Engineering); and 2 national second-class key (nurturing) disciplines (Power Machinery and Engineering, and Technological Economy and Management). DUT has 17 Liaoning provincial first-class key disciplines (in-cluding 59 second-class disciplines): Mathematics, Chemistry, Mechanics, Optical Engin-eering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, Biomedical Engin-eering, Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Instrument Science and Technology, Infor-mation and Communications Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Environmen-tal Science and Engineering, Management Science and Engineering, Business Administra-tion; and 8 provincial second-class key disciplines that are not covered by the first-class disciplines: Philosophy of Science and Technology, Industrial Economics, Plasma Physics, Theoretical Physics, Architectural Design and Theory, Electric Machines and Electric Appara-tus, Control Theory and Control Engineering, Design and Building of Ship and Ocean Struc-tures. DUT also has 10 construction projects of the key disciplines of the “Tenth Five-year Plan” and the “211 Project”, 26 Liaoning provincial key disciplines, 4 national key labora-tories, and 20 mobile stations for post-doctoral research programs. DUT covers a total area of 4609 mu (3.07 million square meters), with a construction area of 1.292 million square meters, and the school library covers an area of 46 thousand square meters with a collection of 2.389 million books, 17 thousand various electronic journals, and 169 kinds of databases. The school gymnasium covers an area of 28 thousand square meters, con-sisting of the main tournament building, swimming hall, etc. The postgraduate education building was built from 2003, with a construction area of 23 thousand square meters and various modern facilities like multi-media classrooms and electronic library terminals, and it has provided an overall improvement of the teaching conditions for the postgraduate stu-dents in DUT. The newly-built North Hill dormitories for postgraduate students, covering an area of 32 thousand square meters, have greatly improved the postgraduate students’ accommodation.
